The house is located on a plot in Lago Sul, a residential neighborhood in Brasília. While most of the spaces in its central area function as a “neutral box”, with white walls and ceilings, the extension of the concrete pillar and beam structure was left exposed in the inner gardens and along the entire perimeter, shaping the living room, veranda, bedroom gardens, and the complementary garage and service areas. In this way, we created a kind of “protective layer” that is in direct contact with the elements.
This layer is composed mainly of exposed concrete and brick—materials that require little maintenance and will slowly bear the marks of time. The bedrooms face small gardens that are protected from the afternoon sun by a perforated ceramic brick wall and a concrete canopy, which also shelters the main entrance.
The brick wall, suspended above the ground, rests on a concrete beam connected to a continuous slab that functions as a bench facing the inner garden. Its conventional concrete structure, with regular spans of 3.5 and 6.5 meters between columns, makes post-tensioning unnecessary.
The same flooring material is used throughout all indoor and outdoor spaces, including the swimming pool. All the furniture, objects, and artworks were brought from the residents’ previous home.
