Ernesto Caixa Cultural

BUILT

Brasília-DF, 2025

The project for Ernesto Café at Caixa Cultural in Brasília followed the current standard of the chain, with tiled flooring, a wooden counter, metalwork window frames, and light, colorful furniture. Some specific adaptations were made to adapt this standard to the new and important architectural context. The café occupies the shop near the exit of the Cultural Space. The site’s regulations allowed for the expansion of the seating area into the covered outdoor space around the base of the tower, provided that this covering was “temporary.”

Thus, the veranda we designed to shade the outdoor tables uses metal pieces with the smallest possible cross-section. The position of its pillars, supports, and beams follows the modulation of the existing concrete structure of the tower, on which it partially rests. The roof is formed by a large surface of tensioned mesh over the metal structure. In this way, a “temporary veranda” is obtained whose dimensions dialogue with the original structure that supports it. Lightweight and with a simple design, its construction allows for easy and reversible intervention at any time.
